Given recent events, I want to make it perfectly clear to everyone that works at Ashby exactly where we stand on the issues happening in the world today. We stand with the Black community and condemn the injustice, intolerance, and tragedy we have seen.

Ashby Lumber is a diverse organization with employees from many different backgrounds. Ashby is a community where everyone belongs, is respected equally, and treated fairly. We have the power and the responsibility to create a culture where hate and discrimination have no place. The feeling I want all of you to have when you come to work is inclusion. We must hold each other accountable and work together to continue to understand each other and be better to each other. I truly believe our diversity is our biggest strength if we use it to our advantage.

Our employee handbook clearly states that “anyone found to be engaging in unlawful discrimination or retaliation will be subject to disciplinary action, including termination of employment.” It simply will not be tolerated.

In addition, your safety is ALWAYS our priority. While we would hope that looters would never go after a small local business, we need to have a plan. If we are made aware that there is any possibility of looting coming near either of the stores, we will lock down the stores immediately. Because there are so many circumstances under which an event may happen, we can’t give you exact instructions, but if they make their way into the store and you are able to get to your car and drive away, we recommend you go home. If you are approached or threatened in any way, always give the person what they want. NEVER engage or disobey someone who is threatening you. We will do our best to send out text messages to all employees with instructions or updates if anything should occur.
